On my dad's side, the ancestory is Hawaiian. We have many hawaiian friends here and a couple of them have decided to start a Hula Halau (school). Heidi, Mindy (sisters) and myself decided to take lessons. We go once a week for an hour to practice. In addition to learning the hula, we are also learning words and more about the culture. It really is the coolest thing and a lot of fun. Surprisingly, practice is a HUGE workout. I have been once so far but I can easily see how you can work up a sweat in no time. We have learned three steps so far. The kaholo, Ami and hela but there are so many more still to learn.

They also have lessons for keikis (little kids). Way to cute. My cousin has her daughter in it. She is also taking lessons with us, which makes things fun. I will have to take a picture of us when we get a little more into it. My mom will be making us our pa'u skirts (practice skirts) so maybe I can get a picture then. Is that picture not the cutest thing. Eventually we too will get the costumes.
1 clever remarks:
