Greek Food Festival

This weekend was packed full of cultural fun. Friday we headed into Boise to meet up with Mindy for the Greek Food Festival. We had never been, heard of it in years past, so decided to go this year. It was a lot of fun and the food was sooo good. We had no idea how the process worked. It seemed so confusing but once we went through it, we understood why they did it the way that they did. We bought tokens to use at all of the food booths, so no money was exchanged. We bought $40.00 worth of tokens to see how far that took us. We went through lines to get out main dishes and then paid with tokens at the end. We did the same for drinks and dessert. We all had yummy gyros (Mindy's of course vegetarian). We then tried Spanakopitas. They are filo dough triangles filled with spinach and feta cheese. They are SOOO good and Gunnar gobbled them up. Jeff also had a greek garden salad and a Dolmathes. It is a stuffed grape leaf with ground beef and Greek herbs. We then got 1 Baklava and 1 Galatobouriko, which was some custard type pastry thing.

Gunnar was absolutely hilarious. Throughout the entire night they kept saying "Opa" was the sound system. For a while it was "Papa", then it was "Opop", then it turned into "Opa". He loved the music and kept dancing away at it. He would then say "Opa!" It was great. They had dancers which were quite interesting. It was fun to watch.Jeff and I left to get dessert and this is what happens when an Auntie and Gunnar get a hold of the camera:
We had so much fun. If you live around here, you should give it a try next year. Oh ya, and if you have extra tokens, you just take them back to the token booth to get them exchanged back into real money. On the way home, Gunnar kept shouting "Opa!" on his own. I think he enjoyed himself as well.

Note: Opa by the way is used to describe a jubilant emotion of/during a celebration. Compare it to horray, yeehaw sort of words. It is also used to describe excitement at an event.
